ANALYSIS: The Marlins are not very good, but utility player Derek Dietrich has been a bright spot for them in the season’s first half. The versatile veteran has hit .288/.350/.452 with 11 home runs and 49 runs scored across 92 games, primarily hitting in one of the first two spots of the Miami batting order.
Since the beginning of June, the former 2nd round pick for the Rays is slashing .319/.386/.489, slugging five home runs and eight doubles. He has a hit in three of the last four games, with a double in two of those games, and has also scored 26 runs since June 1. Dietrich also has a soft hit ball rate of just 12% over the last month-plus and has a very strong 27% line drive rate.
Dietrich has played almost exclusively in left field this year, but for the remainder of the season he will be eligible at every position save for catcher and shortstop. That is good enough to have him be a must own in all formats.
