Derek Carr (QB, LV) - Week 17 Waiver Wire Pickups

ANALYSIS: Another week, another great performance by Derek Carr. At this point, I'm starting to think Carr is the most underrated quarterback in the NFL. I know, I know. Carr might not be the flashiest of passers out there, and the doesn't have that rushing prowess--though he has scored three rushing TDs in the past four weeks...--but he's more than a viable fantasy QB, and that's all I need from him.

Carr had an incredible stinker back in W12 when he finished with 1.6 FP against the Falcons. You read that right, now remove it from your brain. Other than that (and excluding the W15 injury-affected game) Carr has averaged 19.3 FP per game this season in his other 13 games, and he's shown a floor closest to 14 FP than anything else (he only has one <10 FP game this season).

Just this past weekend, playing for a postseason appearance that ultimately went trash, Carr completed 21-of-34 passes for 336 yards and a touchdown against no interceptions. He also rushed the ball a couple of times for negative yardage... but another rushing touchdown, his third in the past four weeks. He also avoided fumbling the ball for the fourth game in a row, and the sixth match in his last seven.

Las Vegas closes the season against Denver, which has the 23rd-best defense against fantasy QBs this season. The W17 matchup looks like a true cupcake for Carr and the Raiders, and with nothing to play for and a months-long offseason ahead, there will be nothing preventing Carr from going nuts and risking the biscuit. The ceiling will be as high as it can get, and the upside will be very high for Carr, which makes him a very nice streaming QB in shallow leagues and a must-add-and-start in deeper formats.
