Derek Carr (QB, LV) - Week 12 Waiver Wire Pickups

ANALYSIS: It wouldn't be smart trying to sell Carr for what he's not: a weekly fantasy winner. Although Carr's start to the season was impressive, with five straight 15+ FP performances in the span going from Week 2 to Week 7, he later proceeded to finish with paltry 11.6, 14.0, and a season-low 7.2 scores in his next three games. His fantasy GMs must be very pleased with his bounceback this past Sunday against KC, as Carr came back to his 20+ FP ways hanging 22.6 points on the Chiefs and getting this close to defeating them once more.

Although Carr couldn't get the W for the Raiders, he couldn't have played much better than he did either. Yes, Carr threw a pick, but he made up more than up for it tossing 3 TDs in 23 completions (31 attempts) connecting in 74.2% of his throws. This is the second-best game of Carr's season, and the other one also came against KC back in Week 5 (25.0 FP).

Carr is not a do-it-all QB, as his rushing prowess is null. That being said, though, he completes passes at an above-average rate (69%) that ranks fifth among starters this season. He has a TD:INT ratio of 19:3, which is also at the top of the league, and although he's not the highest-volume thrower (18th in passing attempts, 17th in passing yards), he's very efficient manning the pocket.

Currently the QB23 in the league in FP/G at 17.0, his 7.2 and 11.6 FP duds are dragging his average down from what should be a much better 18.9 fantasy points per game--that would rank him as the QB14. Make Carr a WW target/streamer in every deeper league, and a surefire starter in 2QB formats. The Raiders have two incredibly sweet matchups ahead against the worst and fourth-worst defenses against fantasy QBs next.
