ANALYSIS: Deon Jackson has spent the majority of 2022 playing behind Jonathan Taylor in the Indianapolis Colts backfield. However, Jackson did get an opportunity for playing time against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 15 when Taylor was forced from the game in the first quarter with an ankle injury.
Sharing snaps with fellow Colts RB Zack Moss, Jackson logged 55 rushing yards on 13 carries and brought in his lone target for a one-yard TD reception. Moss did see the bigger workload of the two with 24 carries for 81 yards.
This isn't the first time Jackson has been called on to relieve an ailing Taylor this year, as he performed well in the starter's absence across Weeks 5 and 6 earlier this season. Jackson produced 121 all-purpose yards and a TD in a Week 6 spot start against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
With Taylor expected to miss a Week 16 date with the Chargers - and likely the remainder of the season - Jackson should once again see a significant spike in usage for the Colts.
However, his path to a workhorse role isn't as clear as it was earlier in the season, as Moss - a midseason acquisition from the Buffalo Bills - will likely figure heavily into the Colts' backfield plans in Taylor's absence.
Moss' presence keeps Jackson from being a true slam-dunk fantasy commodity, but the former Duke Blue Devil should still see plenty of action this week in a juicy matchup against a bad Chargers run defense. Jackson has proven himself to be a capable pass catcher out of the backfield, which should help him to see solid volume even while sharing time with Moss. He should be considered a FLEX option in Week 16.
