ANALYSIS: With Jonathan Taylor (ankle) set to miss at least the first four games of the 2023 NFL season on the PUP list and Zack Moss (hand) trending toward being out in Week 1, Deon Jackson is slated to be the primary ball carrier for the Colts against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Jackson posted an RB1 week with 23.1 half-PPR points last season against the AFC South rival, but the Colts' offense is brand new in 2023, and Anthony Richardson is unlikely to pepper him with targets like Matt Ryan did. Jackson caught all 10 of his targets in that game as Ryan threw 58 passes.
Expect the Colts to limit Richardson's passing workload in his NFL debut. Ultimately, Jackson will likely see the majority of the running back rushing attempts in Week 1, but the offense will likely struggle mightily early in the season, and Richardson is a threat to score rushing opportunities in the red zone and near the goal line.
Jackson and rookie running back Evan Hull have limited ceilings, but Jackson is a low-end flex consideration by default. He could exceed expectations, making him worth adding in 12-team leagues. Fantasy managers who implemented a zero-RB approach in preseason drafts should always be on the lookout for these kinds of streamers.
