Denzel Mims (WR, NYJ) - Week 9 Waiver Wire Pickups

ANALYSIS: Are you looking for extreme fantasy football experiences? Oh boy, then you should definitely roster and play some New York Jets during the rest of the season, am I right? The Jets are whatever comes after "worst". That's a bad thing. But the Jets have also welcomed rookie-WR Denzel Mims just a couple of weeks ago, have Sam Darnold back manning the pocket, and are playing for nothing other than knowing what they have in their hands. Mims will stay active whether he likes it or not, that is.

Although Mims has disappointed a bit in his couple of games this season (8.2 and 6.2 PPR) and his usage was rather low last Sunday (3 targets), it is also true that he has faced just the 5th- and 3th-best defenses in the league against fantasy WRs, so he gets a pass for now. The Bills decided to apply shadow-coverage on him, and the Chiefs didn't surrender an inch. Cold world, it happens.

Mims, though, has made the most of his chances averaging 10.5 and 21 yards per reception in his two games. He's caught 4 and 2 of 7 and 3 targets respectively in the last two weeks, and he's finished with back-to-back 42-yard tallies. Nothing otherworldly, I know, but still good given the environment he's part of...

Sam Darnold is dumb and didn't target Mims at all after the first quarter against Kansas City. That should change, and it should do soon. We have yet to see it, but I'm hoping it will end happening. Mims is not a WW target for shallower-league GMs, but he should be an asset to consider having rostered in deeper formats to deploy him when Darnold and the offense come to their senses.
