Denzel Mims (WR, NYJ) - Week 8 Waiver Wire Pickups

ANALYSIS: It took a while thanks to that pesky hamstring injury that kept him sidelined, but Denzel Mims has finally arrived in New York. The Jets spent a second-round pick on the former Baylor wideout and got to watch him play for the first time this season last Sunday. With WR1 Jamison Crowder out, and with QB1 Sam Darnold also coming back from injury, everything looked bright for Mims entering Week 7.

It wasn't a massive debut (Mims scored 8.2 PPR points), but there is hope to see him perform to greater levels going forward. You just have to look at Buffalo's gameplan once they realized Mims was cooking them. Mims played 45 snaps on offense, caught 4 of 7 targets, and finished with 42 yards. Those are not mindblowing numbers, sure, but starting after halftime Buffalo dropped CB Tre'Davious White in shadow coverage on Mims. Read that again.

White has been the Bills CB1 this season, had seen just 17 targets, allowed 10 completions, and surrendered 134 yards in coverage through Week 6. On a per-game basis, he's just allowing 7.1 PPR points to receivers. Mims is a rookie, so it makes sense to see him super limited facing such terrifying coverage. Don't overthink his under-10 PPR game, folks.

Mims is a little bit of a flier this soon into his career, but he could very clearly become New Yorks WR2 in no time, and he looks like Robby Anderson Lite. Add him in every deep league (12+ teams) and keep an eye on him just in case he becomes a must-add also in shallower (or basically, all) formats.
