ANALYSIS: This has been a long season for the New England Patriots, as the team sits at 4-11 on the season and is going to finish under .500 for the third time in the past four seasons. For context, the last sub-.500 finish before 2020 came way back in 2000, Bill Belichick's first season as the team's head coach.
One bright spot for New England has been the play of rookie wide receiver Demario Douglas, a sixth-round pick out of Liberty. In 12 games this season, Douglas has 44 catches for 517 yards, though he's yet to find the end zone. Douglas has four games with 50 or more receiving yards this season and he's had eight or more targets in three of his past four games.
This week against Denver, Douglas had another good game as he caught five of his eight targets for 74 yards in New England's surprise win. He has a tough Week 17 matchup on tap against the Buffalo Bills, but Douglas did have 74 scrimmage yards last time these teams met. There's definitely some upside here, even if the matchup looks pretty rough on paper for Douglas and the Patriots.
