ANALYSIS: There appears to be a new No. 1 receiver for the New England Patriots as rookie Demario Douglas saw a career-high in targets this week for New England. He pulled down six of those for 84 yards.
This marked the third game in a row that Douglas has been targeted at least seven times. With Kendrick Bourne done for the year and veterans like JuJu Smith-Schuster and DeVante Parker not really making much of an impact, Douglas appears to be the top weapon at wideout for the Pats.
The big question mark here is less about Douglas and more about the Patriots' quarterback situation going forward. Mac Jones was benched on the final drive of the game for Bailey Zappe and the Patriots feel like they almost have to stick with Zappe now, even though he ended Sunday's game with an interception.
Will Zappe turn out to be a positive for this passing attack? If so, that would be a boost for Douglas. He should continue to play 70 or more percent of the team's offensive snaps and it'd be a surprise to see him drop under seven targets.
The Patriots also have a bye week in Week 11, giving them time to work on the Zappe-Douglas connection, assuming that's who winds up as the New England starting quarterback.
