BALLER MOVE: Add In Deeper Leagues
OWNED IN: 30% of leagues
ANALYSIS: With Tony Parker still recovering from a quad injury that could cost him two more months at least, the Spurs named Dejounte Murray as starting point guard for this week’s season opener. The 21-year-old sophomore from Washington saw very limited action last season, just averaging eight minutes per game, but his starting role on opening night saw plenty of promise. In 25 minutes of action, Murray scored 16 points, picking up five rebounds with two assists and a pair of steals. A unusually big point guard a 6’5’’, he already possess great blocking ability for his position, as evidenced by his one block recorded in the aforementioned game.
Murray’s size and opportunity in San Antonio has prompted plenty of sleeper talk and it comes with good reason. Now that head coach Gregg Popovich has shown enough trust to start him over experienced veteran Patty Mills, Murray’s stock grows even more. While he may not consistently score 16 points a game like he did earlier this week, a double digit scorer with multiple rebounds and assists to go with a block here and there makes him a terrific deep league find. Look for Murray as a waiver wire point guard who can provide a little bit of everything while seeing over 20 minutes of action in the early part of the season.
