Fantasy Baseball Impact Of The Chicago White Sox Claiming Deivi Garcia Off Waivers
The Chicago White Sox claimed right-hander Deivi Garcia off waivers on Thursday from the New York Yankees, per a tweet from the American League Central club’s official Twitter account:
Garcia, 24, has appeared in 10 MLB games (eight of which were starts) in parts of the last four seasons, throwing 48.1 innings and pitching to a 4.84 ERA, a 4.56 FIP, 43 strikeouts, and 14 walks in the process. He’s made two MLB appearances this year, allowing four hits, four walks, a home run, and an earned run in 5.2 innings, while also adding four strikeouts and a save.
The right-hander has thrown more in the minors, logging 46 innings (in 28 appearances) for New York’s Triple-A affiliate this season.
Deivi Garcia In Triple-A In 2023:
- 46 innings pitched
- 5.67 ERA
- 6.41 FIP
- 45 strikeouts
- 32 walks
- Nine home runs allowed
A former top prospect, Garcia will join a White Sox organization that just traded away a number of veteran pitchers in Lucas Giolito, Keynan Middleton, Joe Kelly, Lance Lynn, and Kendall Graveman.
With the White Sox’s short-term future looking like something a bit resembling a rebuild, Garcia could see an extended opportunity in the majors at some point. So while he was initially optioned to Triple-A, the former Yankees pitcher is certainly someone to keep an eye on in deeper fantasy leagues as the season progresses given the potential opportunity in Chicago.
