We are officially in Week 10 which means I can start saying that the season is coming to end to help sell my picks. Not the smartest idea to out myself like that, but it's the truth. The earlier you can forget about the regular season and start focusing on playoffs the better. We will call this the "load management" period where you need to start finding those players who are going to produce near the end of the season and start selling on the guys who will be sitting.
We all know Kawhi Leonard has taken load management to a new level, and while the internet has predictably responded with a flurry of "RESPECT LOSSED" tweets and player comparison charts, we know exactly what he is doing. He's taking a page out of my book and gearing up for playoffs early. Very smart, Kawhi. Very smart and totally my idea....
Make sure to stay updated on injuries and return times, but as far as I'm concerned, these next three players will see the biggest benefit. As a reminder, for standard (10-12 team) league adds, we use a general rule of thumb of an ownership rate of under 50% on Yahoo. All position eligibility based on Yahoo leagues. Free Agent Waiver Adds for Week 9
Langston Galloway, PG/SG – Detroit Pistons
Ownership: 10%
11.5 PPG / 2.2 RPG / .438 FG% / 2.3 3MPG
Since Langston Galloway had a hot streak earlier this season while Blake Griffin was out, it's easy to see why owners abandoned him upon Griffin's return. This upcoming week, Galloway faces the 76ers, Wizards, Spurs, and the Jazz. All teams that have defenses that have either taken a slight step in the wrong direction, or just let up points to wing shooters. Either way, Galloway has upside this week and while there is risk, there is risk with all the Pistons players. They have lost their last four games and since Galloway really isn't the reason for it, it would make sense that he sees a few extra minutes. To be entirely honest, I think he needs to be traded to a better team that needs perimeter scoring and defense. So literally every contending team.
Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, SF/PF – Toronto Raptors
Ownership 14%
8.8 PPG / .434 FG% / 3.7 APG / 1.1 SPG
If you're smart like fellow RotoBaller Dennis Clausen, you have already picked up Rondae Hollis-Jefferson. With Norman Powell set to miss around 15-20 games with a shoulder injury, the Raptors need a secondary scorer that is able to defend, rebound and space the offense. Hollis-Jefferson is not good for spacing, but he is capable of having good shooting nights every now and again so this pick an ideal flier for the time being since he is pretty much guaranteed to see more usage. This also leads into my next option.
Chris Boucher, PF/C – Toronto Raptors
Ownership 20%
5.7 PPG / 4.1 RPG / .442 FG% / .8 BPG
The Raptors have given Chris Boucher the opportunity to contribute and he has not let the chance go to waste. Last game he saw a 30% usage rate and he managed to post a season-high 21 points. He is going to continue to get minutes even with Serge Ibaka back because they fill completely different roles. Boucher is more than willing to pull from three and has the ability to block multiple shots a game.
