BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues
OWNED IN: 37% of Fleaflicker Leagues
EXPERT ANALYSIS: Still in need of rotation help for a playoff run after the Colin Rea fiasco, the Marlins looked to their own bullpen in David Phelps. Although he is yet to pitch past the sixth inning, Phelps has yielded just three earned runs in three starts so far. Most promising is the 17 K in 14.2 IP as a starter, raising his already solid K/9 to 11.2 on the year. His numbers as a reliever this year were already helpful to deep league owners: 2.65 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, 3.14 K/BB and 22 holds. As a starter, he has been even better: 1.84 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, 3.40 K/BB. Although he has just one win and is yet to post a quality start, once he gets stretched out he should begin to go deeper into games. This means more chances for wins and even more strikeouts. Phelps is posting a strong 30.9% K%, which is reason enough to make him a viable starting for leagues with 12 or more teams. If you're short on your innings limit, slot him as a RP who will log starter innings and he can give you an extra boost the rest of the way.
