BALLER MOVE: Start In All Leagues
POSITIONAL VALUE: WR1
ANALYSIS: Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams is a talented, veteran player coming off a year that failed to meet his standards. After finishing as a top-three fantasy receiver for three consecutive seasons, Adams fell to WR10 overall in 2023.
Adams' regression was mainly caused by turmoil at quarterback. The Raiders tied their franchise record for most starting quarterbacks used in a single season; their three starters were Jimmy Garoppolo, Aidan O'Connell, and Brian Hoyer.
None of those three players will start in Week 1 of the 2024 campaign. Las Vegas gave those honors to Gardner Minshew II. Signed out of free agency, Minshew helped lead Michael Pittman Jr. to a career-best WR13 finish last year, and there's optimism that he can re-elevate Adams' game in a similar way.
Adams certainly has the talent and experience needed to find his way back into the range of top five wide receivers. He caught 43 touchdown passes from 2020 through 2022 and has caught 100-plus passes in each of his last four campaigns. Even with iffy-at-best quarterback play in Las Vegas over the last two seasons, Adams has done well.
He remains a must-start fantasy receiver heading into his Week 1 matchup against the Las Vegas Chargers. In that contest, he'll be guarded by Asante Samuel Jr. The last time Adams faced off against Samuel in a game (Week 15 last year), he earned a 86.2 PFF grade, which was ultimately his third-highest single-game grade of the campaign.
Between his enticing matchup and his undeniable talent at the age of 31, Adams remains a must-start fantasy weapon in the low-end WR1 tier.
