Danny Duffy (SP, KC) - Waiver Wire Pickups

Baller Move: Add in all leagues

Owned in: 48% of Fleaflicker leagues

Analysis: Despite offensive struggles, starting rotation chaos, and catastrophic injury woes, the defending World Series Champion Royals currently sit at 38-31 which is good for the second AL wild card spot and a mere game behind Cleveland in the AL Central. One of the players that have stepped up to make that possible is LHP Danny Duffy. At the age of 27 Duffy has been pitching in the majors since 2011 and has appeared in 115 games, made 87 starts, and has 497.1 IP for Kansas City. He started the year off in the competitive Royals bullpen, but has been in the rotation lately with eye-popping results.

He has a 3.17 ERA, 1.074 WHIP, and 3.79 FIP in the year. Last year, Duffy had mediocre HR/9, BB/9, and K/9 figures of 1.0, 3.5, and 6.7. While he is allowing more homers at 1.5 HR/9, he has gained much better control of his pitches and command of the strike zone with a 2.0 BB/9 and 10.5 K/9. As a starter in 2016, Duffy has a 3.25 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, 42 strikeouts, and seven walks in 36 IP good for a K/9 of 10.5 and BB/9 of 1.75. He has made big improvements in pitch command and his talent was being wasted in the bullpen behind an army of Wang, Hochevar, Soria, Herrera, and Davis; in the KC rotation, he is thriving.
