ANALYSIS: Miami Marlins starter Dan Straily continued his impressive season with a solid performance against the Nationals on Wednesday and now has a 3.43 ERA this season. In six innings of work against the fiery Nats, Straily surrendered just one run off three hits while striking out six. Straily has allowed one run or fewer in three of his last five starts, making him Miami's best starter. Opponents are hitting him for a .212 average this year, and his 1.10 WHIP is currently the eighth-lowest in the majors. He has 86 strikeouts in 84 innings this season and has a quality start in four of his last five starts, showing that he is putting up consistently good performances. Straily has struck out five batters or more in seven of his last 10 starts, making him a good bet for strikeouts going forward.
Straily had a 3.79 ERA and 1.19 WHIP for the Reds last season, so this strong performance should not be a shock, but his strikeouts have seemingly come from nowhere and have made him a strong fantasy option. His 5-4 record may not be staggering, but he has won four of his last five decisions and is quickly becoming a strong addition. He should be owned in all deeper leagues, but is becoming a decent addition in more shallow leagues as well.
