ANALYSIS: Chicago Bears starting running back David Montgomery suffered a knee injury in Week 4. Initially it wasn't clear how long he would be out -- but now there's a strong chance that he could miss 4-6 weeks with a knee sprain, making his backup, Damien Williams, one of the most intriguing options on the waiver wire this week.

Williams suffered a thigh bruise himself in the team's Week 4 victory over the Detroit Lions. However, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on Monday that he should be fine for the team's upcoming game against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 5.

The 29-year-old veteran saw a significant workload in Week 4. He played in 33% of the snaps and carried the ball eight times for 55 yards and a score while also catching both of his targets for 15 yards. He has a solid track record of delivering decent production when his number has been called over the years. The last time we saw him as a No. 1 back was in Super Bowl LIV as the starter for the Kansas City Chiefs in their win over the San Francisco 49ers. In that game, he carried the ball 17 times for 104 yards and a touchdown and caught four of eight targets for 29 yards an another score.

Williams should be added by anyone who needs short-term running back help in leagues of 12 teams or deeper. He has a great Week 5 matchup against a Raiders defense that is allowing 132.3 rushing yards per game, the 10th most in the league. He should see the bulk of the carries and running back targets while Montgomery is out with rookie Khalil Herbert filling in as the team's No. 2.
