BALLER MOVE: Target Around ~158 Overall
CURRENT ADP: 180+ (Undrafted)
ANALYSIS: Elephant in the room alert - Patriots running backs can't be trusted. Now that we've addressed the obvious issue, let's understand that this New England team will be unlike any we've seen in this millenium because this will be the first time Tom Brady isn't there. Like it or not, the team will have to rely on the running game to protect Cam Newton.
Sony Michel and James White are still there, but Michel is coming off knee surgery and has not been fully healthy in the preseason. Lamar Miller was signed to add depth but was immediately placed on the PUP/Active list and is no stranger to injury himself. White is what he is - the pass-catching back who shows up come playoff time. Rex Burkhead is around as well, but has dealt with his own injuries and isn't a true workhorse running back.
You just have to give a quick look at PFF projections to get an idea of how the backfield would operate. Even with White projecting to get 143 PPR points over the year, he is expected to carry the ball only 38 times. Sony Michel, on the other hand, projects to 168 carries. It's a black-and-white comparison, so even the slightest of slips and missing games from Michel will open the door to Damien Harris to rack up rushing attempts and touches.
Despite all the mouths to feed--assuming all stay healthy--Harris could be poised to make an impact. PFF has Harris projected to the second-most rushing attempts among New England's running backs with 71 (16.4% rushing share) and could also earn a role as a pass-catcher here and there. Harris is a risky pick but that is exactly what makes him worth buying low, as nobody in the fantasy world can truly place trust in him. Harris is dealing with an injury of his own, but once healthy should be given every chance to work into the offense this season - and if he gets a lucky break thanks to others' injuries he could very easily return massive value given his current ADP.
