BALLER MOVE: Consider as a Flex in 12+ team leagues
POSITIONAL VALUE: RB3 with a low ceiling
ANALYSIS: Just when Devin Singletary appeared to have secured his role as the Texans' starting running back, the coaching staff pulled out an Uno reverse card.
Week 1 starter Dameon Pierce reentered the picture. The second-year back had seemingly lost his job due to poor performance and an ankle injury that sidelined him for several weeks. In that stretch, Singletary rushed for over 110 yards twice in three games. It was the first sign of life for the Houston running game all season. With a newfound aspect to a high-powered offense, it seemed like Singletary was there to stay.
When Pierce first returned in Week 12, the carries between him and Singletary were split almost evenly, but the latter played over 80 percent of the snaps and snagged six catches. In the following contest, snap counts were all over the map. Singletary saw the most with 46 percent, Pierce followed with 38, and even Dare Ogunbowale got involved. Pierce led the trio in touches (15) and bulldozed his way into the end zone.
That means we're back to a committee approach, which puts Pierce back on the map as a fantasy option, but severely hampers the upside of him and Singletary. Both are low-ceiling plays against the New York Jets on Sunday. The pair could be in line for a few more touches due to wet and windy conditions in East Rutherford, but that also lowers scoring odds in what could be an ugly game. Neither are particularly exciting options, but there's a safe floor of at least 10 touches.
