Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox - Yesterday's Recap

Ellis Canady reviews last night's MLB box scores (6/29) and provides fun opinions on a variety of topics to help fantasy baseball owners with their lineups.

Welcome to the Sunday, June 30th edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.

Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.

In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on June 30th. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Daily Musings

  • Did we bring our special Base Wars bats to play in London? 30 total runs?! I pity the owner that didn’t benefit from this game. Oh damn, I’m one of those people. Ah well. Maybe round two will be better. Game one light show was sponsored by Aaron Judge(seven), Brett Gardner(12), Aaron Hicks(six), Jackie Bradley Jr.(nine), & a special thanks to Michael Chavis for his extra contribution (two HR = 14)
  • Renato Nunez —THUNDER!! —two taters.
  • Zach Plesac didn’t know the safe word. O’s kept whipping. (3.2IP, 7ER, 3BB, 4K). Ouch! PEACHES & CREAM, Zach. You gotta remember that stuff.
  • Vladimir Guerrero Jr. w/a HR? Yes, #8. It’s like he(.250AVG), Cavan Biggio(#6, .240) & Danny Jansen (#4, .188) had a pow-wow before the game. “We can do this. We can do this. We can do this.” They might be heating up.
  • When you’re losin’ games, & don’t know what to do; who you gonna call, METS BULLPEN! Yep, they arrived on the scene to help out the struggling Braves bats w/three runs including Austin Riley 14th bomb.
  • Chance Sisco drops the BASS again w/fourth HR!
    • As he rounds the bases, I think I saw him singing his theme song.
      • I’ve got power like What! What!
      • Pitchers throwing his junk, junk
      • Crowd shakes their butt, butt
      • Wont you throw it again!!
      • Let me see that Thong-Thong-Thong-Thong-Thong
      • I don’t know what Thongs have to do with hitting junk but Sisco is definitely living la vida loca.
  • Andrew Benintendi leaves six guys on base and takes the second London game off. This has been an Amazing week for Benny owners. (If that sarcasm doesn’t slap you in the face, you’re not close enough. Get closer)
  • Brendan McKay does what every prospect will do right before FAAB night…drive the price up. Six scoreless inning, 1BB, 3K. Does he stay or does he go now….if he goes there will be trouble….if he stays there will be…Double. Yep, Yankees waiting to welcome him, proper-like.
  • Marcell Ozuna lost to IL black hole…Tyler O’Neill time.
  • Javier Baez boggles the plate discipline idea. 20th HR, .285AVG w/42.4%Chase & 18.4%SwingingStrike rates. Swing Wild, Swing Often! I like it.
  • Rhys’s Pieces. Rhys Hoskins got a piece of it and it sailed for 19th HR. Power but Batting Average drain, as of late.
  • Jordan Yamamoto didn’t have his mojo. Rolled Fours. (4IP, 4ER, 4BB, 4K). ATL next. Keep rolling young man. Better dice ahead.
  • Anthony Rendon gets 18th HR, but wasn't fast enough for the combo meal.
  • What is dead may never die! Nelson Cruz w/HR #14 & 15, including a 469ft Monster Jam!
  • Max Kepler follows in Cruz' footsteps with two of his own(21).
  • We are warming to this Eloy Jimenez guy, I see w/ 74% owned. Maybe his 14th HR will help the slow pokes.
  • Alex Verdugo didn't need a HR to help you 3-for-5 w/R & RBI. AVG at .311. Only 39% owned. C'mon, MAN!
  • Justin Verlander uncharacteristically wild today w/5IP, 4BB, 5K. No concern. LAA next.
  • Domingo Santana (18) & Dan Vogelbach (20) are just two guys here to help with your power numbers.
  • Brandon Woodruff uses Pirates to reach 10 wins. 7.2IP, 1ER, 6K. Great American Small Park next.
  • Zack Greinke looking like a smooth operator w/seven scoreless, six K. Rockies next. At home is better than Coors.
  • THUNDER!! Matt Chapman w/20th dinger.
  • House Party in San Diego. Manny Machado w/two(19; 9HR, 21RBI last 15 days); Franmil Reyes w/two(24); & Fernando Tatis Jr. (11; 3HR, 3SB, .346AVG last week)
  • Enjoy your Sunday baseball. Be engaged with a new baseball mate.
  • No Fear, Just Fantasy.
