Welcome to the Saturday, June 1st edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.
Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.
In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on June 1st. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Daily Musings
- Renato Nunez….You’ve been THUNDERSTRUCK!! 14th HR. He’s been phenomenal the last two wks, but still only 33% owned. Some people get butt-hurt easily and don’t want to buy back in. But you missed out on favorable opportunities. You have to stream to success. You still have two games at home before a trip to Texas. Get in for that, at least.
- Ever let your kids have a sleepover and say they have to be back home at 10 am and they call begging you to please let them stay longer? They will be the best child on the planet, they will do the whole world’s chores if you would please, please let them stay longer. In other news, Keston Hiura refuses to yield a job despite the imminent return of Travis Shaw. He HR(fourth) in hopes of getting to stay longer.
- Starling Marte w/lowest batting average (.261) in seven years. Only six HR, but thankfully he’s healthy (for now) and has nine SB.
- Rafael Devers w/ eighth HR. Shame on all the people that were bashing him for the first month of the year for not having power. Side note, Devers leads baseball in the number of hits exceeding 95mph (91). I’m buying if you’re still selling. No?! Then be thankful for what you have, including seven SB.
- I told you Reds offense was heating up. Patrick Corbin gets roughed up w/eight runs allowed. Fantasy owners rejoice that only six were earned.
- Spoiler Alert: Kevin Kiermaier (16% owned) will be in my outfield waiver wire article. How can he not be? In last two weeks, he’s hit four HR, stole four bases, and has a .316AVG. Plus, he gets the Tigers and Red Sox next week. Not too bad of a schedule at all.
- Nicholas Castellanos could not take advantage of series in Baltimore but he did HR vs. the Braves. Maybe he just loves being closer to home (FL). He only has six HR & .268AVG. I’d buy low. Don’t forget, he might be on a new team at some point.
- Joey Gallo w/16th HR & still has .272 AVG. I’ll never stop grinning at this. Oh, he has a full week at home coming up too. Start as many Rangers players as you can.
- Preseason betting: Through May 31st, who has the better record, Indians or White Sox. A majority would say Indians. Underdogs and homers would say ChiSox. & the house wins again. Both w/28-29 record. That’s downright ugly.
- Trevor Bauer falters again (six R, only two ER, but eight K, one BB). He has a 68% LOB-rate. Everything else looks good, aside from overall BB-rate. It is time to buy low, NOW!!
- Matt Chapman w/15th HR. You are so dreamy w/your 92.4mph avg exit velo
- TGFBI turmoil - Yadier Molina to the DL. I can’t afford this right now. Stop all the shenanigans. Big decisions will need to be made. I never wanted to have more than two spots used on speculations, now I have three. Kids, do not try this at home, especially if there is money on the line. Since no money, I’ll likely continue to be stubborn, like a jackass. That's why they call me Grumpy, I guess. Keep hope alive for the Usurpers.
- Vladimir Guerrero Jr. w/your beautiful swing. sixth HR. You may not win the batting title as some projections forecasted, but I’m proud to have you on my roster. Wait, that was only on one team, which was actually a dynasty mock draft. Damn. Ready the Trade Cannons.
- Jarrod Dyson w/zero HR, zero SB, .194AVG in last two weeks. He’s sure to find his way to waiver wire in quite a few leagues.
- Risen from the dead, Christian Walker w/second-straight homer game. No more Kevin Cron (demoted) to worry about. A 16.4% Brls/batted ball event will generate a few more.
- Just the way the Angels like it w/back-to-back HR from Mike Trout & Shohei Ohtani. Can you believe ranks 10th w/93mph avg exit velo? Love his swing. He's playing consistently and hasn't even started running yet.
- Joey Lucchesi (4-3) w/34% chase rate benefits his 25%K rate. He’s using his cutter just often enough to count as a third pitch, which he needs. for long-term success. Keep in mind, he gets the Phillies next but at least it is at home.
- Have we said to buy low on Corey Seager? Sounds familiar. three HR, nine RBI, .360AVG in last week. Travels to ARI & SF next, not great parks, but decent pitching.
- FAAB Collection for the week: Mitch Keller, DJ Stewart, Zach Plesac, Will Smith, Mike Yastrzemski (HR); Jon Duplantier (decent outing vs. Mets (five IP, four K, three ER; he’d get the Dodgers next. No thanks); Jose Suarez? Nope, you gotta wait until next week. Price will skyrocket or stay nonexistent depending on performances.
