Daily Fantasy Soccer: DraftKings MLS DFS Lineup Picks, Sleepers and Advice for 8/8

What a week for soccer! With the English Premier League season kicking off and the MLS season in full swing, soccer aficionados and casual fans alike can enjoy great play on the pitch. In the MLS, the competition is heating up as teams near the home stretch. Draftkings, who recently entered an exclusive partnership with the MLS, has numerous available contests for MLS daily fantasy players. Sit back and relax as I break down the highest value options at each position.

Editor's Note: If you haven't played Daily Fantasy MLS / Soccer games, check out our partner DraftKings. They're hosting a one-day Fantasy MLS league this weekend.

It's FREE to enter with $3,000 up for grabs!  Sign up now and we'll give you free access to RotoBaller's Ultimate NFL Full Season Pass + DFS Lineup Picks (a $99.99 value). You'll also receive a 100% bonus on your first DraftKings deposit.

DFS Soccer Goalkeepers for Draftkings

Tim Melia, Sporting KC ($4,600)

Although Tim Melia is facing Toronto FC’s potent offense, his value only grows larger considering the increase in the volume of shots he will face. He averages 0.5 clean sheets per 90 minutes, which means that every time he steps on the field, there is a 50% chance he will record a clean sheet. Additionally, he only concedes 0.75 goals per 90 minutes and records 2.89 saves per goal, which should help to bolster his value considering the emphasis Draftkings places on saves, clean sheets, and one goal games for goalkeepers. With a dollar/fantasy point value of $438.10, Melia packs a lot of value into a relatively low price tag.

DFS Soccer Defenders for Draftkings

Taylor Kemp, DC United ($4,900)

Taylor Kemp is a statistically solid defender who compiles fantasy points at a rapid rate. Despite a relatively 0.2 shots per 90 minutes, Kemp makes up for the lack of shots with many crosses, which ultimately lead to assists for him. He averages 0.33 assists and 1.11 key passes per 90 minutes, which are above-average numbers for a defender. With a dollar/fantasy point value of $662.16 coupled with a matchup against the Montreal Impact and their weak offense, Kemp is sure to provide much value this weekend.

Marcel De Jong, Sporting KC ($4,400)

De Jong is a riskier option than Kemp for one reason: he often does not see the field for the full 90 minutes. When he does see the field, however, De Jong racks up fantasy points with a barrage of crosses and shot attempts. He averages 1.51 shots and 1.23 key passes per 90 minutes, which are statistics that would be acceptable for a midfielder, much less a defender. He provides a dollar/fantasy point value of $714.29, and if goalkeeper Tim Melia has a stellar game against Toronto FC, then De Jong is all the more likely to provide high value at the defender position.

DFS Soccer Midfielders for Draftkings

Javier Morales, Real Salt Lake ($9,200)

For a price that is $1,800 below the price of the top midfielder, Kaka, Javier Morales provides more fantasy points per game (12.6) than Kaka (11.5). Morales is a stellar midfielder for DFS soccer as a result of proficiency in almost every statistical category. He averages 0.34 goals scored, 0.55 assists, 2.12 total shots, and 3.56 key passes per 90 minutes—all spectacular numbers. Additionally, his dollar per fantasy point value of $730.16 cements his position as one of the most valuable midfielders available for MLS DFS games on Draftkings.

Cristian Maidana, Philadelphia Union ($8,200)

For a relatively inexpensive price of $8,200, Maidana’s production of 10.2 FPPG (fantasy points per game) is outstanding. His 0.36 assists, 1.38 shot attempts, and 3.17 key passes per 90 minutes are above average. The fact that he is facing the porous defense of Orlando SC (37 goals allowed this season, second worst in the MLS) only increases the chance that he will have a goal or assist this weekend. With a dollar/fantasy point value of $803.92, Maidana is a great value option at the midfielder position.

DFS Soccer Forwards for Draftkings

Sebastian Giovinco, Toronto FC ($13,000)

Rarely does it occur that the most expensive forward in MLS DFS leagues is also the most valuable, but if there ever is an exception to the rule, Sebastian Giovinco is just that. His extremely high price tag seems prohibitive until ones looks at his 19.7 FPPG production. His 6.04 shots/90 minutes, 0.79 goals scored/90 minutes, 0.45 assists/90 minutes, and 1.63 key passes/90 minutes are astronomical numbers for a forward, and they help to contribute to his otherworldly production. His dollar/fantasy point value is $659.90, and if you choose him, you are sure to get great value at the forward position.

Kei Kamara, Columbus Crew ($10,900)

There comes a point when Draftkings cannot price players appropriately to their value without receiving backlash. Both Sebastian Giovinco and Kei Kamara are past that point. Despite being the two most expensive forwards available, Giovinco and Kamara provide a tremendous amount of value. Kamara scores 0.68 goals/90 minutes, has 4.57 shots/90 minutes, and garners 1.05 key passes/90 minutes, which are statistics that pale in comparison to Giovinco’s stats but remain far better than the stats of the vast majority of forwards. He averages 16.4 FPPG to provide a dollar/fantasy point value of $664.63—an extremely high value at the forward position.

DFS Soccer Flex for Draftkings

Giles Barnes, Houston Dynamo ($8,000)

The Flex position is one of the hardest to choose in Draftkings contests. There are infinitely many options, and the position can often be the difference between finishing in the money or leaving the contest empty-handed.
Giles Barnes is a player who has not played particularly well of late but has ample opportunity for fantasy points against the lowly San Jose Earthquakes. He averages 0.35 goals scored and 3.06 shot attempts per 90 minutes. He averages 11.3 FPPG to provide a dollar/fantasy point value of $707.96. Barnes is an intriguing option at Flex who could provide well needed value to help provide your Draftkings MLS contest lineup with the boost it needs to come out on top.
