NHL DFS Picks for Tuesday, January 5th
We are back for another night of daily fantasy hockey. There are eight games in the NHL tonight and no teams are playing on back to back nights. There is a real mix of goalies tonight with a few elite options in good spots and then some very low end backups. For the purpose of cash games we should concentrate on the top of the board and look for a team playing at home as favorites. If you want to save some salary in GPP's and stack a top offense, punting at goaltender may be a way to go tonight.
Lets take a look at some core plays for Tuesday night.
Roberto Luongo - Goaltender, Panthers (DraftKings - $8,200 FanDuel - $9,600)
Luongo has been on an absolute tear recently and has pushed his win streak to seven with a shutout win vs. the Rangers last game. He is now 17-11 with a .929 save % on the season and been a key piece in pushing the Panthers to the Atlantic Division lead.
Tyler Seguin - Center, Stars (DraftKings - $8,600 FanDuel - $9,100)
Coming off back to back games without a point and a combined -2 rating. Streaks like these don't last long for players of his caliber and tonight is a great spot to snap out vs. the struggling Rangers. He is fairly priced as the 3rd highest priced forward on DraftKings but seems under priced on FanDuel where he is the 9th ranked forward in salary.
Nikita Kucherov - Winger, Lightning (DraftKings - $6,100 FanDuel - $6,900)
He is on an absolute tear lately with 13 points in his last 10 games including four multi point games. The only downside is his +/- so he makes a GPP only play on FanDuel tonight. The Lightning make a great stacking option tonight vs. the Flames who rank 29th in goals allowed per game and 30th on the penalty kill.
Patric Hornqvist - Winger, Penguins (DraftKings - $6,000 FanDuel - $6,000)
Another mid tier wing option who has been on a roll lately. While he only has six points in his last 10 games he has picked up 47 shots on goal in that time providing a very high floor for cash games. The Penguins offense and powerplay has started to click which also gives Hornqvist some upside for tournaments.
Matt Niskanen - Defense, Capitals (DraftKings - $4,400 FanDuel - $5,000)
He has seen an increase in ice time with the absence of John Carlson which has boosted his fantasy upside. This may be the last game to max value out of him as Carlson should return by the end of the week. He has points in three straight games and is safe in all formats.
