MLB Injury Updates for 4/7/16
As we attempt to navigate through the minefield that is fantasy baseball, it is important to be aware of the day-to-day happenings throughout the league. A platoon or injury plugin at zero hour can sometimes make the difference between a good and a bad day.
As we look over the landscape Thursday, DFS players may want to focus on a fly ball heavy pitcher like Hector Santiago. On the other side of the ball, Derek Holland could create opportunities for hitters like Albert Pujols and C.J. Cron.
Kendall Graveman will take the ball for his first start of the season after dealing with a flu bug earlier this week. There has been no indication that he will be facing any restrictions following the ailment.
There has been speculation that Adam Jones is dealing with an injury after showing pain in his face during at-bats over the last two games, but manager Buck Showalter has said he is not aware of any problems. Continue to deploy him as usual. UPDATE: MASNsports.com reports that Jones is dealing with soreness in his ribs and will not play as a result. Nolan Reimold will enter the lineup in his absence.
Denard Span will return to the leadoff spot against the Dodgers after sitting out Wednesday due to flu-like symptoms.
MLB Lineup Updates for 4/7/16
Justin Ruggiano looks poised to remain in the starting lineup for the second consecutive day against lefty Hector Santiago. The back-to-back lefty opponents should keep Mitch Moreland on the bench. Delino DeShields unexpectedly sat against Wade Miley on Wednesday, but should be back atop the batting order, as manager Jeff Banister wanted to give his full roster a look to start the season. UPDATE: Mitch Moreland draws back into lineup vs. lefty. Ruggiano to the bench
Craig Gentry will likely get the nod against Derek Holland after notching his first hit in an Angels uniform Tuesday, while Daniel Nava appears likely to take a seat. Geovany Soto could make his first start of the season in place of incumbent Carlos Perez.
Kyle Schwarber will likely draw back into the lineup after taking a seat Tuesday against left-hander Andrew Heaney. Matt Szczur had a productive day in his role as a platoon bat, going 2-for-4 with a homer in Schwarber’s absence.
Ben Revere was placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday after straining his right oblique. The injury means that Michael A. Taylor will likely be a staple in the lineup for as long as Revere is sidelined. He will start against Marlins’ left-hander Adam Conley.
J.B. Shuck will make his first start of the season against right-hander Kendall Graveman. The same can be said for catcher Dioner Navarro, and shortstop Tyler Saladino. Alex Avila, Jimmy Rollins and Austin Jackson will head to the pine.
UPDATE: Matt Wieters out Thursday. No indication that he has suffered an injury. Caleb Joseph will start behind the plate.
Weather Updates for 4/7/16
The Yankees and Astros are expecting occasional thunderstorms, but it doesn't appear that the worst will come before 9 P.M., when there will be a 40 percent chance of rain.
The Red Sox and Indians are expecting rain and even some snow in the forecast, but the chance of precipitation does not get above 55 percent before UPDATE: Game PPD due to rain.
There may be some light rain at the start of the contest between the Twins and Orioles, but the forecast looks pretty clear for the majority of the evening.
