Cut List (Week Eight): Players to Consider Cutting Bait On...

Let me veer off track here for a second…

I am having a major problem with robots. Not robots like Johnny 5, the kind that billionaire-geniuses are currently inventing.

Ever seen the robot dog that can hunt and run fast in the woods? How about tiny robot spy bugs? Cmon, Why do we need those?

If you haven’t noticed, robots are making a major power move with self driving cars.

If you ask me, I say no thanks. No matter how sweet it would be to nap during a traffic jam or have a robot drive home after a night at the bar, in the long run, it won't be worth it.

For one, a lot of cops would lose their jobs. With no need to catch speeding motorists or enforce traffic laws, there will be no use for them. Truckers will also lose their jobs. I could only imagine the dystopian hell that awaits with elderly truckstop trannies wandering around deserted truck stops wondering what happened to all the truckers.

Think about it, no more peeling out to impress the ladies. No more driving slower than the speed limit to retaliate against the car behind you for riding your ass. No more racing. No more horn.

Giving up your freedom to operate a vehicle is basically giving up on America.

The government will say self driving cars are way safer and everyone will happily agree. People will lazily give up their freedom to drive, under the guise of safety and leisure.

Get ready to wait in line at the DMV for permission to leave town. Then, fast forward to hyper intelligent robot cars that eventually turn on humans and make us into the Matrix.  No mas robots, por favor.

Now that I've explained my fears being involved in the humble beginnings of the start of the end of humanity, our focus can now be shifted back to the Cut List. Here some players for Week 8 who you should consider letting go of in fantasy baseball. Make sure you read closely though, because not all of these players should actually be cut!

Elvis Andrus (SS, TEX)

With the second lowest slugging percentage among shortstops, five stolen bases, and a .295 OBP (16th among qualifying shortstops). He is not helpful for your fantasy team. Andrus has been on the decline for two consecutive years and he will be turning 27, which isn't typical. Hopefully Erick Aybar is available. Over the last 14 days, he has an .886 OPS with 12 runs scored. Over the last 30 days, Aybar ranks as fantasy baseball's third best shorstop.

Christian Yelich (OF, MIA)

If you are in a shallow league redraft league, cutting Yelich is conceivable. Otherwise, you need to be patient with the 23 year old. He has only 113 AB’s since returning from the DL but his .196/.274/.245 triple slash is concerning. Hitting in front of Giancarlo Stanton should boost his run production, but ironically Yelich has only 2 Runs on the season! Even Delino Deshields Jr. is hitting for more power than Yelich over the last 40 plate appearances.

Mike Fiers (SP, MIL)

With a 4.76 ERA and 1.35 WHIP, is it time to consider dropping Mike Fiers? No way Jose. His 3.72 FIP and .372 BABIP are strong indicators of some bad luck and bad defense hurting his overall numbers. I would consider Fiers a terrific buy low candidate, especially if your league counts K/9 as Fiers is ranked third among qualified SP with an 11.23 K/9.

Phil Hughes (SP, MIN)

Trade him. He has too much value to just cut. His current 4.60 FIP is more indicative of the pitcher he was in 2013  with the Yankees. Hughes finished that season 4-14 with a 5.19 ERA. In 2014, Hughes FIP was a stellar 2.65, which is now looking much more like an outlier than a progression. Hughes K/9 is down from last season and his HR/9 is a career high 1.76. Maybe you could find a manager willing to deal a Mike Fiers or Ubaldo Jimenez for him. I would make either of those deals before Hughes loses any more value.
