BALLER MOVE: Start in 14+ Team Leagues
POSITIONAL VALUE: WR3
ANALYSIS: Washington Commanders WR Curtis Samuel has been an intriguing name in fantasy after posing a nine-catch, 100-yard outing on Thanksgiving Day in a 45-10 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.
Before the Cowboys matchup, Samuel saw a total of just three catches for 11 yards across a span of two games. Now, he might be a solidified target for the NFL’s passing yard leader in QB Sam Howell.
Samuel has battled injuries and his usage has varied heavily over the past few weeks. In Week 12 against Dallas, he saw a 56% snap share, in Week 11 against the Giants he saw a 16% snap share, in Week 10 against Seattle a 54.1% share, and in Week 8 against Philly, he was at 19.4%.
That being said, he finds himself sitting in a nice spot as the Commanders host the Miami Dolphins in Week 13. This game has the highest implied point total of any game this week, and the Commanders are currently nine-and-a-half-point underdogs. This type of game script can lead to an increased volume for Washington’s passing attack, with Samuel being one of the beneficiaries.
On top of that, Miami’s secondary has been a somewhat favorable matchup for receivers this season. The Dolphins have allowed the 13th most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers this season, and have allowed a wide receiver to score a touchdown in their last five games.
Samuel’s roller coaster in usage doesn’t make him a safe start in some smaller formats, but a favorable game script for one of the league’s most pass-happy offenses makes him a high-upside play in Week 13.
