CFB DFS Strategies and Insights
If you are a NFL DFS veteran, you will find a couple of noticeable differences in the college game. First off, there are no kickers or defenses. This is all about positivity! Who wants to lose points anyway?
Instead, you will find a super-flex option. There is also no TE slot in college. Those whose primary position is TE are listed in with the receivers. The one QB slot, two RB, three WR, and a flex spot are the same. The main difference is that college takes away D/ST and TE and adds a super-flex. Why is that a big deal? Because we have the option to run two quarterbacks.
As you may expect, that is the most common build in any format, especially cash games. You can be different in large field GPP's by running four running backs or five WR. The amount of build options in the college game allows for a lot more parity among lineups. For this reason, cash games can often be more difficult in college football DFS tournaments.

One thing I have noticed in my years of playing college football DFS is that most optimizers are completely worthless, especially early in the season where more players put up stats in blowout games. You can have a guy that shows up with a 20-point average at minimum price because he had one good game against a 1-AA team. The best way to stay ahead of the game is to watch the depth charts closely to find value plays and be wary of what optimizers spit out. For those of you that love to do hand builds, college football is the DFS sport for you. The hand built lineups often do better.
The general rule in other DFS sports is to not worry about blowouts. The inverse is true with college football. Because of the large number of players on every team, teams that run up a big lead often sit the starters for a large portion of the second half. Beware of high price tags, especially on quarterbacks, in games that are expected to be blowouts. This is especially true against 1-AA teams. Most major conference teams will only play the starters for the first and third quarters in games like that.
I will be with you every step of the way with DraftKings college football picks all season long and will often remind you of things included in here. I worry less about ownership percentages in college football than any other sport because there are so many ways to get different. A good example would be with Oklahoma TE Austin Stogner last season. He was listed as the fourth-string running back and was priced like it. However, he was the starting tight end and saw a massive number of snaps for near minimum price. This is where you can gain the edge you need. By paying more attention to depth charts than you do in any other sport.
