Week 2 of the college football season is on in the rearview mirror. It featured a number of big moments, including Texas dismantling Michigan.
No trophy in college sports means as much as the Heisman Trophy, which recognizes the best player in college football. That's why each week I'll be taking stock of the top five contenders for the trophy.
Below are the top five Heisman contenders after Week 2 of the college football season. These are the five players who I view as having the best shot to win the trophy based on their performances this season.

5. Carson Beck - QB, Georgia
It's a wide-open Heisman battle this year so take the order here with a pinch of salt. Carson Beck completed 72% of his passes and threw for five touchdowns in this week's win over Tennessee Tech.
Season Stats: 70.7% completion rate, 520 yards, seven touchdowns, zero interceptions, 37 rushing yards
4. Dillon Gabriel - QB, Oregon
In a competitive field, Dillon Gabriel's touchdown numbers need to rise to keep pace. In Week 2, he led the Ducks to a close win over Boise State, going 18-or-21 for 243 yards and two touchdowns.
Season Stats: 84.3% completion rate, 623 yards, four touchdowns, zero interceptions, one rushing touchdown
3. Jaxson Dart - QB, Ole Miss
Jaxson Dart's numbers really stand out so far. He currently leads the FBS in passing yards after throwing for 377 yards on 92.6% passing in Saturday's win over Middle Tennessee State. He doesn't have a Heisman moment yet, there's still plenty of time for that to happen.

Season Stats: 87.0% completion rate, 795 yards, six touchdowns, zero interceptions, two rushing touchdowns
2. Cam Ward - QB, Miami
After a huge showing in the team's big win over Florida in Week 1, Cam Ward threw for over 300 yards again in Week 2 against Florida A&M. He had three passing and one rushing touchdown in the victory. The former FCS star has a real shot to win the Heisman in 2024.
Season Stats: 75.4% completion rate, 689 yards, six touchdowns, one interception, one rushing touchdown
1. Quinn Ewers - QB, Texas
Sometimes, the Heisman is about narratives, not numbers. Quinn Ewers has the narrative as he tries to lead Texas to glory in its first season in the SEC. In Saturday's dominant win over Michigan, Ewers was 24-for-36 for 246 yards and three touchdowns.
