ANALYSIS: While Cole Kmet has been far from a convincing play on a weekly basis this season, that doesn't mean he's (seemingly) fixed his game of late: five touchdowns in three games, just by themselves, are more than enough to at least give him a chance ROS and see if he can keep up with that ridiculous production for a few more weeks as we get closer to the fantasy postseason.
You read that right: Kmet has scored five touchdowns in the past three games before not finding paydirt at all in the first seven weeks of the year. In fact, Kmet has actually improved his fantasy outcomes from four consecutive games starting with a dud in W6 (2.5 PPR points) and then getting 5.2, 9.1, 22.9, and finally 23.4 PPR this past Sunday.
Kmet has been on the field for at least 83% of all Bears' snaps from W1 and that won't change: he's playing nearly 100% of them these days. The actual usage has been even better of late, with Justin Fields looking for his tight end six times in Week 9 (5 catches) and then seven times in Week 10 (4 catches).
In the past three weeks, Kmet has caught a combined 11 passes out of 15 targets for 126 yards and 5 touchdowns. No other tight end has even approached Kmet's 54.5 PPR in that span with Travis Kelce getting the second-most FP at just 49.7 in two games. Even on a per-game basis in that same span, Kelce would just outperform Kmet by 20.4 FPPG to 18.2 with no other TE at that level.
Whether this is sustainable or not is hard to know (most probably it is not, because nobody in his sane mind averages nearly 1.5 TD a week) but at least the volume has gone up a tick for Kmet. Justin Fields has been great but more on the rushing than the passing side of things, don't get that datapoint wrong. That said, Kmet seems to be his favorite pass catcher and the most reliable one in Chicago's offense.
