While not the most exciting pickup, Coby Fleener offers some utility to fantasy players looking for value at a thin TE position. Fleener only has 36 catches for 325 yards and two TDs this season, disappointing owners who hoped he would replicate or improve last year's production. But he should continue to see enough targets to warrant a roster spot as an option at TE.
Fleener has had two really productive games this season, against the Jaguars in Week 4 and the Panthers in Week 8. What’s encouraging for Fleener’s prospects is that his best games came with different QBs – Matt Hasselbeck in Week 4 and Andrew Luck in Week 8. Fleener is still one of the top options in the Colts passing game, leading the team in targets in two out of the last three weeks. With only three catches for 45 yards last week, Fleener is more of a high-floor fantasy play.
The Colts will not throw the ball as deep with Hasselbeck at QB, so Fleener should continue to be targeted on short and medium routes. He hasn’t been targeted in the red zone since Week 8, and that will have to change for there to be serious upside here. Dwayne Allen is out of the Indy TE picture, so if you’re in desperate need at the position, Fleener is worth a shot.
