In a move that will likely be overlooked by both football fans and fantasy pundits alike, the Cleveland Browns acquired tight end Rob Housler to replace Jordan Cameron. Cameron left Cleveland for the Miami Dolphins over the off-season and although he's a much better player than Housler, this move is a little more significant than you might think.
Housler is a talented player who has been stuck on an Arizona Cardinals team that notoriously underutilized the tight end position. The Browns, albeit with limited quarterback talent, have shown that they can get the ball to the tight end with some consistency. Granted, the combination of Josh McCown, Johnny Manziel, and who knows who else isn't exactly a vote of confidence for an offensive surge from Housler -- but it's been proven that a tight end can produce in this system even with shaky play from the QB position.
Perhaps the most important aspect of this move is the simple fact that the Cleveland Browns are desperate for pass catchers. With Josh Gordon suspended for the entirety of the 2015 season, and Jordan Cameron now in Miami, the team simply needs warm bodies on the field.
Here's some oversimplified analysis for you: someone has to catch the ball. Yes, the team signed Dwayne Bowe but the reality is we don't know who, if anyone, will have any sort of fantasy significance in Cleveland this far away from Week 1. In short, don't dismiss this move entirely just yet. Keep an eye on Housley once the season arrives.
