ANALYSIS: After a few weeks of disappointments for those banking on Chuba Hubbard, the backup tailback finally showed his ceiling for a lowly Panthers squad that went on to lose another one to the Saints this past weekend. Not that the loss or the score deficit affected Hubbard's usage and touches, though, as he posted the second-highest touch-mark of his season to date.
That should remain the same given the developments around Carolina's backfield of late: Hubbard has appeared in between 25 and 36 snaps through the past four games, but the snap rate hasn't stopped rising from 39% to 47%, 49%, and lastly 52% this past Sunday. Hubbard's production, though, was cratering from 9.3 PPR points to 5.1, 0.9, and then 15.8 FP this weekend. That can only mean Carolina will keep feeding him because 1) the Panthers were already doing so with Hubbard underperforming and 2) Hubbard is coming off his second-best game of the year.
Hubbard's 15.8 PPR points in W17 against the Saints were close to his best tally of the year (18.4 in W5), and he did it on a heavy 17-carry workload in which he was good for 55 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown (fifth on the year). He added 13 bonus yards on 3-of-4 receptions, too. Hubbard will be on the field next weekend racking up carries once more facing a Tampa Bay squad already in possession of the Division and thus (most probably) resting tons of bodies.
