ANALYSIS: Christine Michael is now getting the opportunity to be the starting running back for the Dallas Cowboys. If you are a running back in the NFL, Dallas is a pretty ideal situation. The Cowboys currently have the second-highest-rated run-blocking offensive line in the NFL with a rating of 7.3 according to Pro Football Focus.
Based on Christine Michael's limited role in the Seattle offense in 2013 and 2014, we have to use a small sample size as for the projections of his potential. In 2013 and 2014 combined, Michael had 52 rush attempts, yet was still able to gain 254 yards for a solid two-year average of 4.9 yards per carry.
In college at Texas A&M from 2009 through 2012, Michael carried the ball 529 times for 2,791 yards for 5.3 yards per carry and a four year total of 34 touchdowns. The yards per carry and the ability to produce large plays is the most important factor in considering Christine Michael as a waiver wire option at running back, considering the dominance of the Dallas offensive line.
Michael's use as a goal-line back in college and his large 221-lb. frame indicates he has the ability to push through contact once he runs into defenders. With such a small sample size of usage in the pros, it is hard to get a clear picture of Michael currently, but his situation in Dallas is incredibly encouraging and certainly merits a roster addition in most, if not all leagues.
