PROSPECT STASH RANKING: #6
CALL-UP ETA: Saturday May 4th, 2024
ANALYSIS: New York Mets starting pitching prospect was recently promoted to the major leagues and is scheduled to make his first career start on Saturday against the Tampa Bay Rays.
The Mets' number-five-ranked prospect has been making headlines at Triple-A Syracuse this spring and is worth rostering in all leagues.
The 24-year-old posted a 3.20 ERA, 0.71 WHIP with 36 strikeouts and just six free passes in 25 ⅓ innings.
Scott’s only weakness is the home run. This season at Triple-A, he allowed just nine earned runs but seven home runs. All of his damage came from the long ball.
What to expect from my top pitching prospect for @SNYtv in Christian Scott, who will make his MLB debut Saturday:
- Competitor who pounds the strike zone (career 2.1 BB/9)
- 4-seam fastball 93-96 T97
- Mid-80s sweeper
- Upper 80s gyro slider
- Upper 80s split-change pic.twitter.com/QClyN21u29— Joe DeMayo (@PSLToFlushing) May 2, 2024
The former Florida Gator will join a somewhat crowded rotation that will welcome David Peterson (hip) and Tylor Megill (shoulder) back fairly shortly, as they recently began rehab assignments. As a result, Scott may not be given ample time, so if he struggles, he may not be given another chance in the majors until later in the summer.
Despite this, Scott has elite swing-and-miss potential and is worth adding in all leagues.
