ANALYSIS: It’s getting a little bit frustrating with Chris Herndon IV’s weekly injury news, but we need to stay patient. Everything pointed toward his debut earlier this month, but a hamstring injury kept him out for the last couple of weeks and although he was close to a Week 8 start he was ultimately scratched again.
Another week, another little column advising you to pick Herndon before it’s too late, that is. By this point in the season, you already know how bad the tight end position players are performing and how ultra volatile they have become. There are just a few sure-thing players at the TE slot right now, but Herndon can become one of them since the very first moment he gets in the field. Last season, already playing under Sam Darnold, Herndon finished the year with 502 yards on 39 receptions to go with four scores, which isn’t bad at all for a then-rookie.
The Jets are nothing otherworldly. They are a team that often trails in games, will need to pass the ball to catch up with their opponents, and lack options on offense other than RB Le’Veon Bell and Anderson/Crowder at the WR position. With Miami coming up next in New York’s schedule, not only should you add Herndon because of his pure ability but also because the matchup looks as good as they get. Consider Herndon a long-terms solution for the TE position of your teams and hold onto him until the end of the season as he should be one of the best at it--while available for free!
