BALLER MOVE: Draft ~70th Overall for Huge Power Upside
ANALYSIS: Chris Davis is one of the safest power hitters to target in the middle rounds of your 2015 draft. His low average and high strikeout rate make him too risky to grab in the early rounds, but his power potential is undeniable.
Davis burst onto the scene in 2012 with 33 home runs and then ascended in 2013 to the fantasy elite with 53 home runs and 42 doubles. In 2015 he struggled mightily to consistently make contact, batting .196 and striking out 33% of the time according to FanGraphs.
Davis makes up for his high swing-and-miss probability by crushing the ball when he makes contact. He finished third in home run to fly ball ratio at 22.6% trailing only Jose Abreu and Giancarlo Stanton. In 2013 he was eighth in fly ball distance and in 2014 he was 21st with an average distance of 298.04 feet per fly ball.
We know the power numbers will be there for Davis, and with some minor adjustments at the plate he can become an incredibly valuable fantasy player in all formats. With power numbers steadily declining over the recent years, I would definitely recommend taking a minor risk selecting Davis in your fantasy draft.
