ANALYSIS: Chase Headley's first half was mediocre at best. The 31-year-old Yankee played like a 31-year-old through his first 83 games in 2015, hitting a mediocre .255 with 8 HR and 30 RBI while slugging only .373 and striking out 76 times. Then came the All-Star Break.
Headley has caught fire ever since the mid-summer classic, hitting a robust .375 over 13 second half games with 5 XBH, 1 HR, and 12 RBI over that stretch. The effort has been enough to raise his AVG to a respectable .270 with 9 HR, 42 RBI, and a SLG nearing in on .400. The 9 HR remains a rather modest number for a player at his position, but Headley may be showing faint glimmers of the 2012 second half in which he went berserk for 23 HR and 73 RBI.
Don't expect a full career renaissance, but Headley has hit about 30 points better in the second half than he has in the first throughout his career. He could be an excellent source of production with a strong Yankees lineup batting around him. Only owned in a quarter of ESPN leagues, he could be one of the best waiver-wire steals of the second half.
