BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues
OWNED IN: 26% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Chase Anderson is the epitome of an unexciting waiver wire pickup. He goes a shade under six innings in each start, allows about two earned runs and strikes out less than a batter per inning. He had his breakout season two years ago and just about everyone knew he'd never repeat that success and sure as day, our premonitions have been confirmed ever since.
However, Anderson's 3.73 ERA this year and the support of the Brewers' offense make him worth consideration for an add for any team looking for pitching help. Sometimes the best add you can make isn't the high upside guy, but rather the guy who is least likely to crush your week, and in this case, Anderson might be just that guy.
While Anderson has completed six innings in just one of his last ten starts, he's also allowed two or fewer runs in eight of those starts. He maintained a very solid 2.90 ERA in July. If he's available for you in 12-team leagues or NL-only leagues, he's worthy of an add. He has solid job security and should be part of the Brewers' rotation the rest of the year as long as he stays healthy. Plus, he's a low risk for a blowup start, which is rare for someone you add of waivers. His next scheduled start is Tuesday at Pittsburgh, which is a favorable matchup, followed by another Tuesday start at home against the Twins, which is less favorable.
