Baller Move: Add in 12-team leagues as TE2.
Owned in: 54% of Fleaflicker leagues
Analysis: Fantasy owners of Charles Clay likely expected more from the third-highest-paid TE in the league. But considering his career averages and the fact he plays for Rex Ryan's plodding, run-first offense, that may have been a bit unrealistic.
Clay, a former fullback, is a fine athlete with decent speed, good run-after-the-catch ability and solid hands. With 41 catches for 422 yards and two TDs thus far, he's not far off his 58-605-3 line of a year ago before he landed a huge free agent deal with Buffalo.
However, his opportunities have dropped to just four targets per game in the last four weeks. That may be mostly due to the return of top wideout Sammy Watkins and limited passing attempts by the Bills overall. Three weeks ago in a win over Clay's former team, Watkins received eight of the team's 12 passing attempts while Clay received just one.
The opportunities will be matchup-dependent going forward for Clay. The Bills face the league's numebr one defense vs. TEs this week in Kansas City. With Tyrod Taylor likely under center despite a shoulder injury, the Bills should never be expected to air it out unless they go down big. This all makes Clay a particularly bad play this week, and a TE2 option at best, going forward.
