Chad Bettis won’t ever be the stud of your pitching staff, but in deeper or NL-only leagues he could prove to be a solid back-end guy. In 2015 he finally managed to bring his modest strikeout stuff from the minors to the major leagues. His K/9 was 7.67 after barely scraping 6-even in years past when the Rockies have called on him. Bettis pitched better than the surface stats suggest, posting a 3.85 FIP, 3.89 xFIP, and 4.08 SIERA against a 4.23 ERA. The 3.29 BB/9 hurts, and directly contributes to that gaudy 1.41 WHIP, but if he can grow a little on the heels of a decent showing in 2015 then he could prove to be valuable for deeper owners. You won’t ever blindly roll him out, but he had a 3.35 ERA away from Coors along with decent Ks, and those numbers will play.
