ANALYSIS: In April, Cesar Hernandez appeared to be building on his breakout 2016 second half before a slump and an oblique injury knocked him off the radar of most fantasy owners. Since returning from the disabled list, however, he's looked a lot more like the player we saw in the opening month. The Phillies' second baseman has a tidy .325/.414/.474 line over the last month (28 games), with 20 runs and six steals in as many attempts. That last bit is especially encouraging; after going just 17-for-30 in stolen base attempts last season, Hernandez is 12-for-15 this year.
While Philadelphia still ranks among the worst offensive teams in baseball overall this season, they've shown significant improvement since the break. Hernandez is entrenched as the leadoff man, which should give him ample opportunities to continue racking up runs and steals. Owners in need of volume in those categories, or a batting average boost, should strongly consider enlisting his services.
