TARGET: ~250
CURRENT ADP: 380
ANALYSIS: Before Capps was shut down last year he was the definition of dominant. Seriously. This isn't one of those "oh, he said dominant but that just means he was the best" situations. I mean dominant.
Here are the top five relievers and their swinging strike rate from 2015 (min. 30 IP): Zach Putnam - 16.9%, Andrew Miller - 18%, Koji Uehara – 18.6%, Aroldis Chapman – 19.3%, and taking home the top honors is Capps with 25.4%! Do you realize how insane that margin between one and two is? Especially when that guy in second place is probably the most feared reliever in the league?
Carter Capps has caused some hubbub with his little jump step delivery, but he isn’t going to have to change anything and there’s no reason to expect him to take a step back in 2016 (ha). Obviously you would like to have a guy who is going to get you saves, so A.J. Ramos is going to (rightfully) go before Capps, but there’s absolutely no reason to let Capps fall like this. Dellin Betances is about as comparable player as you’re going to find and his ADP is over 200 spots higher at 146.
Capps is the next man up in Miami should something happen to Ramos, and even if that never happens you are set to rack up strikeouts and get some good ratio support out of him. Those of you in rotisserie leagues with inning maximums or who have K/9 as a category are going to want to take extreme measures to get Capps on your squad.
