Analysis: Not only has Carlos Estevez managed to keep the Rockies' closer spot (which everyone was surprised he got in the first place) but he has been absolutely thriving in it. In total this season the 23-year old reliever has a 3.76 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, is allowing 4.0 BB/9, but is also getting plenty of missed swings at 10.1 K/9 as he is 38.1 IP into his first MLB season. Not surprisingly, Estevez seems to be far more comfortable when pitching away from his home Coors Field. His home line is a 4.76 ERA with a 1.41 WHIP while he has a 2.30 ERA and 0.766 WHIP in 15.2 IP on the road. In 15.1 combined IP in April and May he had a 5.28 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, and zero saves. In the 23 combined IP in June and July he has a 2.74 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 10.96 K/9, and all 11 of his saves. Given his apparent job security and improvement throughout the season, that makes him a safe and valuable acquisition for fantasy baseball owners.
