BALLER MOVE: Add in two-catcher leagues
OWNERSHIP: 1% in Fleaflicker leagues
ANALYSIS: If you're looking for a backstop who will don the mask behind home plate for at least 100 games, Cameron Rupp might suit your needs. Carlos Ruiz, now 37, is not what he used to be and will now serve as the secondary catcher. The Phillies began the transition to Rupp as the primary catcher late last year. Now that they are in full-blown rebuilding mode, Rupp will see the majority of starts going forward. The good news is that in 270 AB last season, Rupp managed nine homers and 28 RBI. The bad news is his .233 BA and 71 strikeouts aren't likely to improve much.
Rupp hit lefties significantly better than righties (.303 vs. .211), so fantasy owners who have Rupp on their bench or consider deploying him in DFS as a cheap option should take that into account. His value is mainly limited to two-catcher leagues at the moment. If you aren't satisfied with your current #2 catcher, Rupp should at least provide double-digit homers when all is said and done.
