BALLER MOVE: Start in 12+ Team Leagues (if both Pierce and Mixon are OUT)
POSITIONAL VALUE: RB3/Flex**
ANALYSIS: Houston Texans running back Cam Akers could see opportunity knocking. After his second Achilles tear in 2023, Akers was given another chance by the Texans and looked to still have some juice in the preseason.
Despite this, he won't have much value if either starting or backup running backs Joe Mixon or Dameon Pierce play in Week 3 against the Minnesota Vikings. The Texans have no lack of options in the passing game, and it's likely they'll shift their offense to be extremely pass-heavy if Mixon isn't able to go.

Mixon is by far the most talented back in the Texans backfield, and his presence has allowed them to use a more run-heavy approach than last season. In 2023, the Texans were extremely pass-happy, partly because running backs Pierce and Devin Singletary weren't able to produce consistently on the ground.
If both Pierce and Mixon aren't able to go, the majority of the workload should fall on Akers' shoulders, and with the Texans' improved offensive line, he could be a flex-worthy play. But he'll probably be highly touchdown-dependent if he is.
It's tough to expect a lot from Akers, who was benched after one game with the Rams in 2023 and tore his Achilles tendon the same year with the Vikings.
UPDATE: Mixon is officially OUT in Week 3
