BALLER MOVE: Stash in all leagues
POSITIONAL VALUE: DST2
ANALYSIS: Jared Goff is coming off of a game in which he succumbed to four sacks, threw two picks, lost one fumble, and led the Lions to 13 points. It was his worst game of the 2023 campaign, but he hasn't played well for several weeks now. That's causing fantasy managers to consider the Denver Broncos, who lead the league in takeaways, as a starting option.
A few things are working against Denver. The Lions return home for this cross-conference matchup, a place where Goff and the rest of the offense play significantly better. The Detroit captain is also getting back center Frank Ragnow, who missed last week. Tackle Taylor Decker is another week healthier after laboring through an injury against Chicago.
The Lions also roster one of the best running back tandems in the NFL. David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs both rank in the top 18 in rushing yards. The Broncos have the unfortunate title of being the league's worst run defense. The Lions could choose to ride Montgomery and Gibbs to alleviate the struggles of Goff. Turnovers and sacks then become far less likely.
If the Broncos are on your waiver wire right now, pick them up. The schedule to end the fantasy season sets them up a championship piece. Denver hosts New England and a Justin Herbert-less Los Angeles in the next two weeks. The Patriots are averaging the fewest points (13) per game in the NFL and the Chargers, without Keenan Allen, got demolished by the Raiders. Stash the Broncos through this matchup against Detroit and use them the next two weeks of the fantasy playoffs.
