ANALYSIS: In an unexpected turn of events, Jimmy Garoppolo was called up to action no later than in Week 2 with Trey Lance getting injured and done for the 49ers season. Garoppolo was his usual great quarterback until he went down too in Week 13. Then, what? Brutal Brock, that's what.
Brock Purdy took the reins of San Fran already in Week 13 with Garoppolo only appearing in eight snaps. Purdy went on to complete 25 passes for 210 yards, throwing two touchdowns and just one interception. He's now improved on that debut in the last two weeks.
Purdy scored 21.7 FP in Week 14 and he reached a 16.5-FP tally last TNF at Seattle, completing 17-of-26 passes for a season-high 217 yards while hitting receivers for two TDs on the day against no interceptions. It's now been back-to-back games for Purdy avoiding getting picked off, and three starts (counting Week 13; he already played 90% of the snaps) in which he's thrown exactly two TDs each time.
Purdy doesn't have any type of rushing upside, even though he's scored one TD on the ground. He's scrambled the rock 10 times in three games, so don't rely heavily on that part of his skill set.
The passing is low volume and the efficiency might crash down to earth at some point (Purdy has completed 69% of his throws; the average for starters is at around 65%) but with just a few weeks in the books and a clear path to keep starting games ROS (no Garoppolo comeback until the postseason, if at all), you can do worse than giving Purdy a chance in deeper leagues or 2QB/Superflex formats.
