BALLER MOVE: Continue Scouting / Streamer in All Leagues
ANALYSIS: Brandon Workman's six-game suspension for throwing at Evan Longoria late in May ended Tuesday. With Clay Buchholz also returning to the rotation from the DL this past week, the Sox rotation is now overcrowded. Felix Doubront has apparently been demoted to the bullpen for the time being. Rubby De La Rosa may be headed to AAA but that has not happened yet. John Farrell has spoken highly of both Workman and De La Rosa apparently wanting to give both their chances in the rotation. So with six clear rotation candidates, the Red Sox rotation is in flux. Workman started against the Bronx Bombers on Friday and pitched a respectable 7 innings, surrendering 4 ER on 7 hits in a 6-0 loss. The 6’ 4” Texan was inserted into the Sox rotation on May 25th and has excelled in 6 starts. His season line of 41.1 IP, 33 K, 3.27 ERA, 1.06 WHIP has been stellar, with 7 IP in Friday’s start being his deepest start of the year. It should become clear over the next week or two whether Workman will continue to be in the Sox rotation. If so, he should be pursued in AL only and deeper leagues and would be a great streamer in any league.
