Analysis: One of the final remnants of Cincinnati’s most recent successful era, Brandon Phillips is now 34 years old and still fighting. Coming off a solid season, he wasn’t garnering much excitement in fantasy markets, ultimately going undrafted in many. With his strong start to the season however, “Dat Dude” is demonstrating that there’s plenty of gas left in the tank. Slashing .297/.324/.453, he’s one of the more productive hitters on his team. He’s also played in 17 of the Reds’ 19 games, showing continued durability. While no longer an elite fantasy second baseman, Phillips looks far from done. Hitting fourth on the team, he’ll have plenty of opportunities to drive in runs, especially with Joey Votto hitting in front of him. While his AVG, BABIP and K% have so far been relatively close to what they were last year, his BB% has dipped to a career-low. That number should rise, providing more value and run-scoring opportunities for the three-time all-star.
