Fantasy Baseball Impact Of Brandon Crawford Being Placed On The 10-Day Injured List
Per a tweet from the National League West club’s official Twitter account, the San Francisco Giants placed veteran infielder Brandon Crawford on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday due to left knee inflammation.
The 36-year-old has appeared in 64 games for the Giants so far, batting .207 with a .285 on-base percentage, five home runs, and three stolen bases in 222 plate appearances. All 64 of Crawford’s appearances so far have come at shortstop.
In his place, the team recalled fellow infielder David Villar from Triple-A per the team's tweet. Villar batted .155 with a .244 on-base percentage, five home runs, and a stolen base in 131 plate appearances in the Majors for San Francisco in 2023. He found much more success at Triple-A, hitting .257 with a .339 on-base percentage and seven home runs in 124 plate appearances for the Giants’ top minor league affiliate.
Capable of playing every infield position but shortstop, Villar seems unlikely to step into Crawford’s role at shortstop while the veteran is on the injured list. For now, he’s likely to only be an option in deeper fantasy league unless he can replicate his 2021 form at the plate.
Last season, the 26-year-old hit .231 with a .331 on-base percentage in 181 plate appearances for the Giants, adding nine home runs, a .224 ISO, and a 124 wRC+ in the process.
